Don't Just Dream

If you would have asked me a couple of years ago when completing my A levels, about what hopes and aspirations I had, I probably wouldn’t have been all that optimistic. However, now, at the end of my first year of university, I am at the opposite end of the spectrum and have great ambitions for the future.
To start with, a university has enabled endless opportunities for me and with the skills I have already acquired in such a short space of time, I thoroughly believe I am capable of achieving anything that is thrown at me. The big dream is to work for sky sports news in any way as I have enjoyed my course of journalism so much since arriving in Sheffield.
Everyone has their own dreams and ambitions but they never even attempt to try and acquire them. Even though my dream may seem pointless and meaningful to some, it's personal to me and I’ve found out that you just need to concentrate on yourself and your own wants and eventually you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be.
I think the best and most obvious advice I would give anyone who wants to achieve something is 'just do it'. Shia Lebeouf said it perfectly didn’t he?! Why waste your time just thinking of something that would suit you perfectly or bring you an abundance of happiness when the opportunity is there if you are willing to go and work at it. Now, hopefully at the end of my degree, I will end up in the field of sports journalism and with the way my first year has gone, I truly believe I can do it.
Concentrating on myself the past few months despite how selfish it may have seemed to people, honestly has been the best thing I have done. In this messed up world, there is only going to be one person who can truly make you feel happy and achieve things, yourself. If anyone reading this has aspirations, then I implore you to go ahead and grab them firmly with two hands. No matter how little they be or how long it is going to take, if you are enjoying life and what you are doing is benefitting you and your happiness then why wouldn’t you take every opportunity that is thrown at you?
Ultimately, your personal dreams and goals are personal to you and only you. Who cares what other people think because I certainly don’t and it's brilliant. At the moment, I am enjoying university so much, met great people, had amazing times and acquired some great skills and experience along the way. I just can’t wait to see what the future holds as the possibilities are endless.
